- Alfred Joseph Benza was a corrupt gossip columnis for the New York Daily News who was fired by the paper’s executive editor Pete Hamill. “I'm going to assume you don't know who Alfred Joseph Benza is. You wouldn't unless you lived in New York when he was the star gossip columnist for the Daily News. Or you caught him co-hosting on Howard Stern the other week. Or you watch him on ‘Mysteries and Scandals’ on E! […] During his reign, he was all over the O.J. Simpson saga, the Michael Jackson caper, Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere, Jerry Seinfeld and Shoshanna Lonstein, Donald Trump and Marla Maples. […] Ethics were never a big thing with him. If his bosses at the Daily News knew he was getting paid for promoting nightclubs, taking clothes at a discount, getting free meals and booze, trading good publicity for sex, he would have been fired.
