[…] The other lawsuit was less frivolous. It was against an architect, Philip Birnbaum, who had designed Trump Plaza, Mr. Trump's new apartment house on Third Avenue, and then proceeded to provide a similar design for a rival developer, Morton Olshan, who planned to build it across the street. Mr. Trump was able to get the architect and developer to agree, in an out-of-court settlement, to make significant cosmetic changes in their design to avoid absolute duplication. The legal precedent for architectural design is not clear, but the additional boost this gives to Mr. Trump's celebrity certainly is.” (New York Times, December 30, 1984)
