- 1989: Trump declared that racism in America had ended, claiming in an interview aired on national television that “I truly believe the young, well-educated black has an actual advantage.” “Billionaire developer Donald Trump amply demonstrated last week on ‘The R.A.C.E.,’ NBC's two-part examination of American racial attitudes, that great wealth is not necessarily an indicator of great intelligence. Commenting on the current state of race relations, Trump said he thought blacks had achieved more than equal opportunity over the last couple of decades. ‘I truly believe,’ he said, ‘the young, well-educated black has an actual advantage.’ In fact, Trump said, if he had a choice of starting out in business now as a young, well-educated white or a well-educated black, he would ‘prefer’ to do it as a well-educated black.” (Chicago Tribune, September 10, 1989)
