• 1989: Trump was granted a unanimous renewal of two casino licenses by New Jersey regulators. “The Casino Control Commission voted today to renew Donald J. Trump's casino licenses, with a warning about his competitors. With Mr. Trump on hand, the commission voted, 5 to 0, to renew the two-year licenses for Trump Castle and Trump Plaza in Atlantic City starting Tuesday. The renewals were granted with a condition previously accepted by Mr. Trump that he promise not to buy stocks, bonds or assets of other New Jersey casinos without the commission's prior approval.” (New York Times, May 11, 1989)

• 1989: The chief executive of Trump's efforts to expand his casino holdings in Nevada was transferred to New Jersey following the death of several other top Trump executives in a helicopter crash. “Former Nevada Gaming Control Board Chairman Mike Rumbolz has been transferred to Atlantic City by the Trump organization to help with operations after the death of three top Trump executives in a helicopter crash. Rumbolz, president of Trump Nevada, was hired by billionaire Donald Trump in February to set up operations in Nevada, with the goal of eventually buying gaming properties in the state. The Oct. 10 deaths of Trump executives Stephen Hyde, Mark Etess and Jonathan Benanav prompted Rumbolz's move to Atlantic City. He will be assisting in the completion of Trump's $1-billion Taj Mahal hotel and casino.” (Los Angeles Times, October 24, 1989)
