The agreement was part of a settlement, reached in Federal District Court in Brooklyn, of three class action suits filed in 1982 by the Open Housing Center of New York and by nine black prospective tenants. The suits charged that the defendants were responsible for a pattern of discrimination against members of minority groups seeking apartments in the three neighborhoods - Forest Hills, Rego Park and Kew Gardens. The defendants admitted no guilt in reaching the settlement, which affects 20 apartment buildings. The defendants agreed to pay the plaintiffs $40,000, part of which will go to members of minority groups seeking homes in the neighborhoods. The brokers are Krahan Leasing Corporation, H. K. Benjamin and Glenjay Realty. The landlords are the Argo Corporation, Sidney Kalikow, the Allison Company, Seminole Realty, Camelot Associates, Whitehall Terrace Associates, the Pershing Crescent Company, the estate of Harold Kalikow and Trump Management. The president of Trump Management is Fred Trump, father of the real-estate developer Donald Trump.” (New York Times, October 25, 1984)
